XP3plus 5G vs. the original XP3plus

Sonim launched the original 4G XP3plus at T-Mobile in September 2021. It runs "Sonim Proprietary OS (based on AOSP Android 11)" on a Qualcomm SM6115 chip, with 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, a removable 2300 mAh battery and a 2.8-inch inner screen. Sonim still has a page for it, linking to Verizon Business, Bell and TELUS in Canada, and distributors.

The XP3plus 5G arrived at AT&T on Aug. 20, 2025. Sonim says it "features new bands, a bigger display, and more memory": a 2.95-inch inner screen, 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, eSIM, and 5G. Sonim's carrier links for the 5G model go to AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Business, so it is the model US carriers sell now. This page covers the 5G model; the original's specs are in the paragraph above. [1][4][5][6]

Apps and Google

Sonim lists the system as "Sonim Proprietary OS based on AOSP 14" and the preloaded application as SonimWare, its device-management software. AOSP is Android without Google's apps and services, and Sonim lists no Google apps or Play Store. Sonim pitches the phone to "leaders who require complete control over apps and features," meaning businesses can choose what runs on it with SonimWare. [1]

It is sold by AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Business. Sonim notes that "carrier compatibility may vary by device configuration, firmware, carrier certification, SIM provisioning." [1]
