Aurora OS (ОС Аврора) is a Russian mobile operating system made by the company Open Mobile Platform (OMP). It is a GNU/Linux system, not Android, and its native apps are written with Qt or Flutter. OMP licenses it only to device makers, and its device page says most devices are supplied only to organizations; one retail phone, the Fplus R570E, went on sale in Russian stores in May 2025 for 16,990 rubles. The current release is Aurora OS 5.2.1 (2026). [1][2][3][4][5][6]

What Aurora OS is and who makes it

Aurora OS is developed by the Russian company Open Mobile Platform, which says it has worked on it since 2016. OMP describes it as a domestic mobile OS on which corporate mobile infrastructure resistant to sanctions risks is built, with regularly renewed certificates from Russia's FSB and FSTEK security agencies. It is in Russia's Unified Register of Russian Software (No. 1543).

OMP's developer documentation describes Aurora OS as a mobile Linux operating system and a GNU/Linux system that uses standard GNU tools. The user interface and apps are built with Qt and QML. [1][3][7]

Play Store apps. Aurora OS doesn't run Android apps directly. OMP's guide to porting apps from Android says native Aurora apps are written with the Qt framework or Flutter, and that adapting an Android app depends on the technology it was written in. Release 5.1.A was meant to let OMP's partners install and run containers with alternative operating systems (AOSP, the Android Open Source Project) so customers could move to OMP's product without porting Android apps; OMP presents this as a partner feature, not a consumer app store.

Apps and banking. Aurora OS 5 ships with the Russian RuStore app store. OMP says banking apps such as Alfa-Bank and T-Bank, the Wildberries shopping service and games are available there. Release 5.2.1 added installable web apps (PWA); OMP says bank, taxi and other service apps became available this way.

Push notifications and management. OMP's release notes list a notification service as part of its Aurora Center (Аврора Центр) device-management product. The OS is aimed at managed corporate fleets, with remote management (MDM) features such as remote Wi-Fi/VPN setup, certificates and app configuration.

Google services. OMP's documentation we read doesn't mention Google services; there is no Google Play, Google sign-in, Google Wallet or Android Auto layer described. [1][2][5][6][7][8][9]

Devices that run it

OMP's device page lists tablets, smartphones and rugged handhelds, and says most devices are supplied only to legal entities. Listed on Oct. 15, 2026:

The Aurora OS 5.2.1 release notes list four supported devices: the AQpad L311 and KVADRA_T tablets and the Mashtab TrustPhone T1 and Omega Dialog-S smartphones.

One phone has been sold at retail: OMP announced on May 20, 2025 that the Fplus R570E with Aurora OS 5 and RuStore was on sale in the "Vsesmart" store chain for 16,990 rubles. [4][5][6]

Who can buy it, and outside Russia

OMP says Aurora OS is available for licensing only to device makers and must be adapted to each device; customers are told to buy devices through OMP's partners. Its device page says most devices are supplied only to legal entities. OMP's 2024 announcement said it planned to start retail sales, and the Fplus R570E went on sale in a Russian store chain in 2025.

The OMP pages cited here describe sales only in Russia. [3][4][5][7]

Project status and news

OMP announced Aurora OS 5.2.1 on May 19, 2026 as part of the long-term-support 5.2 branch. The release notes give build 5.2.1.200, dated June 24, 2026, code name "Khabarovsk", in corporate and certified editions. Changes include PWA support, a desktop mode for tablets with a monitor, mouse and keyboard, a new Chromium-based browser, wider MDM features, and development on Apple Silicon Macs. [6][9]
