iodéOS is a version of Android without Google's apps and services, made by iodé, a company in Toulouse, France. It is based on LineageOS, includes microG so apps that expect Google Play services still work, and blocks trackers and ads across the whole phone. iodé sells phones with iodéOS only in Europe; in the US you can buy one from OpenMobile, an independent reseller iodé points to, or install it yourself for free. [1][2][3]

What it is and who makes it
iodé is a company based in Toulouse, France. Its iodéOS is built on the Android Open Source Project and LineageOS, with Google's services removed. Two things set it apart, per iodé:
- The iodé blocker: a built-in, system-wide ad and tracker blocker that checks every app's connections on the phone itself. The iodé app shows which servers each app contacts and, on a world map, where your data goes. You can block any recipient, and add categories such as adult content or social networks (useful as parental controls). - Removable preinstalled apps: the default apps (iodé browser based on Firefox, Thunderbird for email, CoMaps for maps, HeliBoard keyboard and others) can all be uninstalled.
iodéOS is free. A Premium plan (3,99€ a month, or 6,99€ for up to 6 devices) adds stronger blocking, custom rules and daily blocklist updates. [1][2][3][5]
How it compares to stock Android
- Play Store apps: there is no Google Play Store. iodéOS ships Aurora Store, an alternative client for the Play Store catalogue, and F-Droid for open-source apps. - Google sign-in and push notifications: microG, an open-source replacement for Google Play services, handles push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging), location and, if you enable it, Google account login. iodé says microG is optional and can be switched off completely. - Banking and payment apps: iodé's microG page says "Most SafetyNet-dependent apps (e.g., some banking or streaming apps) may not work" and that getting around Google's Play Integrity checks is increasingly difficult because they rely on hardware. - Android Auto: iodé says it works from iodéOS 6 without root. You enable the preinstalled Android Auto app, update it from Aurora Store and install the Google app, Google Maps and Google Speech Services (or stub versions). It needs a USB cable; wireless mode "is unreliable or unsupported". - Day to day: ads and trackers are blocked across all apps by default, and the default search engine in the iodé browser is Qwant.

| Phone | iodé price |

| Volla Plinius / Plinius Plus | from 603,00€ |
| Google Pixel 9 / 9 Pro | from 513,00€ |
| Google Pixel 8 | from 373,00€ |
| Sony Xperia 1 V | from 723,00€ |
Older refurbished phones start at 153,00€. iodé says it relocks the bootloader on the Fairphone, Pixel and Motorola Moto phones it sells. iodé added the Fairphone 6+ on Aug. 18, 2026 and says iodéOS will be maintained on it until at least 2033; the Volla Plinius models opened for pre-order in July 2026.
In the US, iodé's FAQ says it sells preinstalled phones only in Europe and suggests installing iodéOS yourself, buying a Brax3 phone from its partner, or buying from independent resellers "such as OpenMobile in the US". OpenMobile, a third-party seller, lists refurbished phones with iodéOS, for example a Moto G (2024) from $199, a Pixel 8 from $449 and a Pixel 9 from $629, with free shipping in the continental US (as of Oct. 15, 2026). It also offers to install iodéOS on your own phone. [1][5][8][9][10][11][12][13][14]
Supported phones and installing it yourself
iodé's official device list lists 61 phones and tablets (our count, Oct. 15, 2026), 41 of them on iodéOS 7 (Android 16). They include Fairphone 3 to 6 (with the 6+), Pixels from the Pixel 3 to the Pixel 9a, OnePlus 9, 11 and 13, the SHIFT6mq and SHIFTphone 8, and the Brax3. For other phones iodé offers a Generic System Image (GSI), a version that can run on most Android phones whose bootloader can be unlocked.
Installing iodéOS is free. iodé offers an installation service only at a partner shop in Toulouse, France. [1][4][5]
Updates and project status
iodé says it publishes system updates "on average every month", including security patches, for all its supported devices, not only those on the newest version. It says its phones "support updates for at least 4 years for each iodéOS version" and that most devices run iodéOS 7, based on Android 16, in 2026.
On Google's Android developer verification, which starts Sept. 30, 2026 on certified Android devices in four countries, iodé wrote in June 2026: "If you're using iodéOS, you're not affected," because iodéOS is independent of Google's certification. Google says the rules apply to certified Android devices and expand globally in 2027. [1][15][16]
