The Volla Phone Plinius is a rugged IP68 phone from Volla Systeme in Germany, sold with Volla OS (Android without Google) or Ubuntu Touch (Linux). As of October 15, 2026 the Volla shop lists it at €598, and the Plinius Plus with more memory at €697.99. Volla ships only within the EU, EFTA countries and the UK, and its published LTE band lists leave out bands 4, 12, 13, 66 and 71, so a US buyer has to import it and check carefully with a carrier. Where it is sold and how to get one

Volla sells the Plinius in its online shop. As of October 15, 2026 it lists four versions: Plinius with Volla OS or with Ubuntu Touch at €598, and Plinius Plus with Volla OS or Ubuntu Touch at €697.99. Volla says delivery takes 3 to 10 working days within Germany after payment.

Volla's shop FAQ says it delivers "in all countries of the European Union, the EFTA countries and the United Kingdom." For other countries Volla's general FAQ points to its Indiegogo campaigns and says to email hello@volla.online if your country is not listed; we found no current Indiegogo campaign for the Plinius.

Another seller in Europe is iodé, which sells the Plinius and Plinius Plus with its own iodéOS preinstalled (see our iodéOS page). On October 15, 2026 its listing starts at €603 and says "Shipping starts in November - pre-order now!"

A US buyer would need a delivery address in one of those countries, for example through a package-forwarding service. We found no US retailer or importer listing for the Plinius. Volla's repair partners are in Germany, the EU and Switzerland. [2][4][5]

Will it work in the US?

Check with your carrier before buying. Volla's spec page lists these bands:

The FAQ on Volla's shop page gives a shorter list for "the Volla Phone" (LTE B1/2/3/5/7/8/20/28/38/40/41; 5G n1/3/5/7/8/20/28/38/41/77/78).

Neither list includes LTE bands 4, 12, 13, 66 or 71 or 5G bands n66 and n71. Compare the list with your carrier's bands in our US carrier bands guide. Volla makes no statement about US carrier certification or VoLTE (voice calls over LTE) on US networks.

The phone takes one nano-SIM plus an eSIM, and Volla says it is not tied to any carrier. [1][2]

Apps and Google

With Volla OS there are no Google apps or Google Play Services. You get apps from the Aurora Store (the Google Play catalog) and F-Droid, and you can switch on microG, which Volla says makes many apps that need Google Play Services work. Volla says Volla OS 15 and newer pass only the first level of Google's Play Integrity check, which some banking and payment apps use.

With Ubuntu Touch the phone runs Linux and Volla says it "is not compatible with Android"; apps come from Ubuntu Touch's own app store. Volla OS includes a multi-boot feature for running Ubuntu Touch from a memory card, which Volla said in April 2026 would arrive by system update. [2][3][4][6]

Software support

Volla says its in-house firmware work ensures "the long-term availability of security and feature updates," but we found no stated number of years of updates for the Plinius. Volla OS updates come through the built-in Updater app. [1][4]

What's different

- Rugged but slim: IP68 water and dust protection, a transparent back cover and screen protector included. - Replaceable battery: Volla says you can swap the 5,300 mAh battery with a standard screwdriver despite the water sealing. - Made in Germany: Volla says the phone is manufactured in Germany. - Two extra buttons you can configure, plus face unlock or an in-display fingerprint sensor. - Plinius Plus: 12 GB RAM, 256 GB storage and a tougher back with pogo-pin contacts for magnetic accessories. - On-device AI: Volla says its photo enhancement, speech recognition and synthesis run only on the phone. [1][3]

Availability history

Volla began shipping the Plinius to pre-order customers in the week of April 28, 2026, and scheduled the Plinius Plus for mid-June 2026. The Plinius succeeds the Volla Phone X23, which the shop still lists. As of Oct. 15, 2026, Volla's product page still shows "Pre-order now" with "Available: April 2026" (Plinius) and "Available: June 2026" (Plinius Plus), while the Volla shop lists all four versions at their prices with delivery in 3 to 10 working days within Germany.
