Where it is sold and how to get one
SHIFT shop. SHIFT sells the SHIFTphone 8.1 (12 GB RAM, 512 GB) from €695 with FLEX delivery (about 12 weeks) or €755 with SCHNELL (fast) delivery in 5-7 working days, plus a €22 device deposit that SHIFT pays back when you return the phone to it. On October 15, 2026 the page says the fast option is temporarily sold out and will return in the coming weeks. SHIFT's shipping terms list Germany and 25 other EU countries; shipping to the UK is paused, and the US is not on the list.
Murena (with /e/OS). Murena sells the "Murena SHIFTphone 8" with /e/OS preinstalled and notes that it is "the updated Shiftphone 8.1 model." On October 15, 2026 the page shows €774.99, "In Stock" and "Ships in 2–3 business days." Murena's FAQ lists the USA among countries it ships to with duties and taxes included, but says to select your country to see whether it ships a given device there; we could not load the US view of this product.
iodé (with iodéOS). SHIFT says a SHIFTphone 8 with iodéOS preinstalled is available from iodé; we did not check that listing.
A US buyer would need to order through Murena (if it offers the phone in the US) or use a European delivery address. SHIFT's 2-year warranty and 5-year repair guarantee stay valid if you install another operating system or repair the phone yourself. [1][2][4][7][8]

Will it work in the US?
Check with your carrier first. SHIFT's spec page lists 5G/4G/3G/2G but no band numbers. Murena's spec page for its version, and the /e/OS device page, list:
- 4G LTE: B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B7, B8, B12, B20, B28, B32, B38, B40, B41, B42, B48, B66, B71
- 5G: n1, n2, n3, n5, n7, n8, n20, n28, n38, n41, n48, n66, n71, n77, n78
- 3G: B1, B2, B5, B8; 2G: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
That list includes LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 12, 66 and 71 and 5G n41, n71 and n77, but not LTE band 13. Compare it with your carrier's bands in our US carrier bands guide. Neither SHIFT nor Murena states US carrier certification. Murena says its phones are "not compatible with CDMA on 2G and 3G networks."
The phone has two nano-SIM slots; eSIM works through SHIFT's modular EcoSIM card, which goes into one of the SIM slots. [1][4][9][10]
Apps and Google
SHIFT ships every phone with ShiftOS G, which includes Google services: Gmail, Google Maps and the Google Play Store. SHIFT says it is Google-certified.
ShiftOS L ("Light") is SHIFT's version without Google services or the Play Store. SHIFT suggests F-Droid, IzzyOnDroid or the Aurora Store for apps and says it takes more technical know-how than /e/OS. You install it yourself following SHIFT's forum guide.
Other systems: SHIFT lists /e/OS (the Murena version), CalyxOS, iodéOS, LineageOS and the Linux-based Nura as alternatives, while noting it has little control over when community systems are available or fully usable. CalyxOS has supported the SHIFTphone 8 since July 2026, and the LineageOS wiki lists LineageOS 24.0 (Android 17) as its current version.
To install one yourself, unlock the bootloader and follow the project's own guide: the CalyxOS SHIFTphone 8 guide, the /e/OS otter guide, the LineageOS SHIFTphone 8.1 guide or iodé's installer. /e/OS lists it as an "official" build, and iodé lists the SHIFT8 on its official device list as compatible with its installer. Unlocking wipes the phone: the /e/OS guide warns it "will erase all data on your device." [2][5][6][11][12][13][14][15][16]
Software support
As of October 15, 2026, SHIFT lists ShiftOS 6.8 G (Android 14) and ShiftOS 7.1 L (Android 15) as the latest versions. SHIFT says ShiftOS L often gets newer versions sooner because ShiftOS G needs Google certification.
SHIFT's software promise: Qualcomm supports the phone's chip until 2036, and until then SHIFT guarantees the Android upgrades Qualcomm provides; it says it will offer security updates "weit über das Jahr 2036 hinaus" (well beyond 2036).
Other systems have their own timelines. CalyxOS's device-support page lists an estimated end of security updates for the SHIFTphone 8 of December 2026, marked as an estimate. Murena says it aims to support its phones with "at least 8 years of software updates and security patches." [1][2][4][17]
What's different
- Modular repair: 18 replaceable modules; the display sits on a replaceable frame, and a screwdriver comes in the box. SHIFT sells spare parts such as antennas, battery, camera module and charging port. - Kill switches: hardware switches physically disconnect the cameras and/or microphones. Murena notes they sit under the battery cover and need a paperclip, so they suit long-term use rather than frequent switching. - Universal battery: 3,820 mAh, swappable in under a minute without tools, shared with the SHIFT6mq and SHIFTkeys; Qi wireless charging. - IP66 dust and water protection; SHIFT says no other phone combines this rating with a modular design. - Device deposit: €22, paid back when you send the phone back to SHIFT. - Made by SHIFT: designed in Falkenberg, Germany, and built in SHIFT's own factory in China. [1][4][8][18]
Model history
SHIFT delivered about 2,000 SHIFTphone 8.0 units in 2024, then moved to a redesigned SHIFTphone 8.1 with 2G support, which began shipping in April 2025. SHIFT ended the pre-order phase on December 15, 2025 after about 10,000 pre-orders, and its status page (updated June 30, 2026) says the phone is now in regular shipping. [3]
Questions people ask
Is the SHIFTphone 8 de-Googled?
Not by default: SHIFT ships ShiftOS G with Google services. You can install SHIFT's Google-free ShiftOS L, buy Murena's version with /e/OS, or install CalyxOS, iodéOS or LineageOS. [2][4]
