Will it work in the US?
HIROH is a US company, and Murena's spec sheet lists a wide set of bands: LTE 2, 4, 5, 12, 13, 66 and 71 among others, and 5G n41, n66 and n77. Murena says Wi-Fi calling works "if supported by carrier". Neither HIROH nor Murena names supported US carriers for this phone, so check with your carrier; see phone bands and US carriers. [2][3]
Apps and Google
You choose the software. HIROH describes its Android 16 version as having "Google services and the Play Store ecosystem", and the /e/OS version as using "Privacy-focused replacements; some compatibility services remain". HIROH advises you to check the apps you rely on before choosing.
On /e/OS, Google's apps are replaced by microG, an open-source stand-in for Google Play services, and apps come from the App Lounge store. Murena's shop FAQ says most Android apps can be installed, in-app purchases aren't supported, and apps that rely heavily on Google services may not work properly. See /e/OS. [3][5][8][9]
Software support
Murena's US spec sheet lists "/e/OS Android 14" and its EU spec sheet "/e/OS Android 16", while HIROH's site says "Android 16 or /e/OS". Neither seller gives a HIROH-specific number of years of updates. The general FAQ on Murena's product page says Murena aims to support its phones with "at least 8 years of software updates and security patches". The warranty is 2 years. [1][3][7]
What's different
- Hardware privacy switch: HIROH says it "electrically removes the protected cameras and microphones from software control". A red LED shows when this Lockdown Mode is on. - Wireless switch: a second physical control starts a software function that turns off cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS (HIROH's FAQ). - Hiroh Communications: HIROH advertises "end-to-end encrypted communications" built into the phone, covering messages, voice and video calls and file sharing. [4][6]
Where the specs disagree
HIROH's site and Murena's store list different hardware as of Oct. 15, 2026:
| HIROH (hiroh.io) | Murena | |
|---|---|---|
| RAM | 16 GB | 12 GB |
| Chip | MediaTek Dimensity 8883 | MediaTek Dimensity 8300 |
| Price | US$999 | US$1,199 |
| Software | Android 16 or /e/OS | /e/OS (Android 14 on the US page, Android 16 on the EU page) |
The e Foundation's launch announcement for the Murena version in October 2025 mentioned 16 GB of memory. Ask the seller to confirm before you pay. [1][3][7][10]
