China edition vs global edition
Honor sells China and global editions with different software. The China Magic9 runs MagicOS 11, based on Android 17. Honor's global spec page for the previous Magic8 Pro lists MagicOS 10 based on Android 16.
Honor documents Google access on its China phones in a support page. That page is written for MagicOS 10, and it says to:
- Go to Settings > Users and accounts and turn on the "Google Play 服务" (Google Play services) switch.
- Make sure the phone is on a network outside China.
- Search the app store for keywords such as "出国" (going abroad) to download overseas apps, including Google apps.
Honor notes that turning on Google Play services may increase battery use. We found no version of this page for MagicOS 11, which the Magic9 runs, so check the setting on the phone you buy. [2][3][5]
Where it is sold and how to get one
In China, Honor sells the Magic9 through its official store, which lists the launch month as September 2026. Launch prices start at ¥4,999 for the Magic9, ¥6,499 for the Pro Max and ¥4,499 for the 超能版.
Outside China, third-party exporters list the China edition. For example, Giztop listed the Magic9 "as low as $939.00" and in stock on Oct. 15, 2026. Giztop says it is a "Chinese edition" with Google Mobile Service and the Play Store installed, and that it offers more than 20 languages including English. Those are the seller's claims, not Honor's. Giztop's shipping page lists DHL/UPS delivery to the United States in 5-7 days and says it may not know about customs duties in your country. We have not tested any seller.
Warranty: Honor's warranties are tied to the country of purchase. Its UK policy, for example, says: "If the Product is purchased in other countries, this Warranty is invalid and not covered in the United Kingdom." [1][4][6][7][8]
Will it work in the US?
Honor's China spec page lists support for 5G, 4G and older networks on China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom and China Broadcast Network, but doesn't publish band numbers. Without a band list you can't check the phone against a US carrier's bands; for example, T-Mobile lists LTE bands 4, 5, 66, 12 and 71 and 5G bands n71, n2/n25 and n41.
- AT&T says devices that don't use its technology and frequency bands can't use its network. - Verizon says a BYOD phone must be unlocked and its hardware and software "must be compatible", which it checks by the phone's device ID.
Honor's spec page also says carrier features vary by country and carrier. Check with your carrier before you buy. See our guide to phone bands and US carriers. [2][9][10][11]
Apps and Google
MagicOS is based on Android, so Android apps install. Honor's China software list names its own app market (应用市场). For Google apps, Honor's MagicOS 10 support page describes the Google Play services switch above, which needs a network outside China. GMS (Google Mobile Services) is Google's package of the Play Store, Google sign-in, Google Maps and push messaging; apps that depend on it may not work until Google Play services is on. See our guides to China-edition phones and banking apps. [2][3]
Software support
The China edition ships with MagicOS 11, based on Android 17. Honor's China spec page doesn't state how many years of updates the Magic9 gets. [2]
