China edition vs global edition
The Pura 90 series comes in two families with different names and software.
| China edition | Global edition | |
|---|---|---|
| Models | Pura 90, Pura 90 Pro, Pura 90 Pro Max | Pura 90s Pro, Pura 90s Pro Max |
| Operating system | HarmonyOS 6.1 | EMUI 16.0 |
| App store | HarmonyOS AppGallery (native HarmonyOS apps) | Huawei AppGallery (Android apps) |
| Google services | None | None |
| Satellite | BeiDou satellite messaging | Not listed |
HarmonyOS 5 and later is Huawei's own system, not Android. Huawei's China support pages tell users to get apps from the AppGallery; ordinary Android app packages (APKs) only install through the "Zhuoyitong" app, and Huawei says whether a package installs depends on what Zhuoyitong supports. See our HarmonyOS page.
The global edition's EMUI is built on Android. Huawei says its HMS Core services run on the Android Open Source Project and support Android apps, but "certain Android apps require support from GMS Core and may not be able to run on HMS Core." GMS (Google Mobile Services) is Google's package of the Play Store, Google sign-in, Maps and push messaging. [2][3][7][8][9][10]

Where it is sold and how to get one
In China, Huawei announced the series on April 20, 2026 at starting prices of ¥4,699 (Pura 90), ¥5,499 (Pura 90 Pro) and ¥6,499 (Pura 90 Pro Max). On Oct. 15, 2026 Huawei's Vmall store listed the Pura 90 Pro (12 GB / 256 GB) at ¥5,499.
Outside China, Huawei announced the Pura 90s Pro and Pura 90s Pro Max at a launch dated July 14, 2026, and its global phone page lists both. On Oct. 15, 2026 Huawei Store Malaysia listed the Pura 90s Pro from RM 3,699 and the Pura 90s Pro Max (12 GB / 512 GB) at RM 4,499.
Huawei does not sell the phone in the US (see the FCC rules below). Third-party exporters list the China edition. For example, Giztop, a seller that ships from China and Hong Kong, listed the Pura 90 Pro "as low as $999.00" on Oct. 15, 2026. Its listing says the phone is the "Chinese edition" with no Google Play store. Giztop's shipping page lists DHL and UPS delivery to the US and says Giztop may not know about customs duties in your country. We have not tested any seller, and a phone bought this way has no Huawei warranty support in the US. [1][5][6][11][12][13][14][15]
Will it work in the US?
Huawei publishes bands for the global models (MLN-LX9 Pura 90s Pro, SCA-LX9 Pura 90s Pro Max): LTE FDD 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 26, 28 and 66, LTE TDD 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42 and 48, and 5G bands n1, n2, n3, n5, n7, n8, n12, n20, n26, n28, n38, n40, n41, n48, n66, n71, n77, n78, n79, n80, n81, n83 and n84. A band is a slice of radio spectrum; a phone only connects where it supports the bands a carrier uses.
- T-Mobile lists its 4G LTE bands as 4, 5, 66, 12 and 71. The global Pura 90s list covers all of those except band 71 (600 MHz). For 5G it lists n71, n2/n25 and n41; the Pura 90s list includes n71, n2 and n41, but not n25. - AT&T says a phone has to work on its 4G LTE network at "AWS, 700, 850, 1900MHz", and that devices that don't match its technology and bands can't use its network. - Verizon says a BYOD phone must be unlocked and its hardware and software "must be compatible", which it checks by device ID (IMEI).
Huawei's China spec pages for the Pura 90 series do not list bands. Huawei does not say whether either edition supports VoLTE (calling over LTE, which US carriers need) on US networks. Check with your carrier before you buy. [2][3][8][16][17][18][19]
Apps and Google
No edition has Google's apps. Huawei says that because of Google's licensing, phones from the Mate 30 series onward don't come with GMS or Google apps, and suggests using the web versions of Google's apps.
On the global Pura 90s, apps come from Huawei's AppGallery, and HMS Core provides Huawei ID, payments, push notifications and other services. Huawei warns that some Android apps need GMS and may not run.
On the China edition (HarmonyOS 6.1), apps come from the HarmonyOS AppGallery. Android packages only run through the Zhuoyitong or Chujingyi apps, according to Huawei's support pages. [4][9][10]
US restrictions: Entity List and FCC rules
The US Commerce Department added Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. to its Entity List effective May 16, 2019 (84 FR 22961). The rule imposes "a license requirement for all items subject to the EAR" (US export rules) for exports, reexports and transfers to Huawei, with a "presumption of denial". Huawei is still on the current Entity List. That rule is about what may be sent to Huawei.
The rules that affect buying a Huawei phone in the US come from the FCC:
- The FCC's Covered List has included "telecommunications equipment produced by Huawei Technologies Company" since March 12, 2021. - Equipment on the Covered List "is prohibited from obtaining an equipment authorization" (47 CFR 2.903). Radio devices may be imported only if they have an FCC authorization or meet one of the conditions in 47 CFR 2.1204. - Since July 16, 2026, the FCC also bars importing and marketing already-authorized equipment added to the Covered List in 2024 or earlier, which includes the 2021 Huawei entry (FCC notice, 91 FR 41023). The FCC says consumers may keep using devices they already have "if the equipment was legally purchased and maintains an existing equipment authorization", and that the bans don't apply to importation under the conditions in section 2.1204(a)(3)-(11). - One of those conditions, 2.1204(a)(7), covers "three or fewer radio frequency devices" imported "for the individual's personal use and are not intended for sale", within the device categories the rule lists. The rule does not name Huawei phones; read it, or ask the FCC, before you import one. - An FCC rule effective Oct. 13, 2026 says its marketing rules reach any entity, "including online marketplaces", that markets unauthorized equipment (91 FR 57798).
