HarmonyOS 6 is Huawei's own system, not Android; Huawei says it rebuilt the system on a new HarmonyOS kernel. See our HarmonyOS page. EMUI is Android-based: Huawei says HMS Core runs on the Android Open Source Project and supports Android apps, but "certain Android apps require support from GMS Core and may not be able to run on HMS Core." GMS (Google Mobile Services) is Google's package of the Play Store, Google sign-in and push messaging. [1][2][3][4][10][11]

Where it is sold and how to get one

Huawei sells the global Mate 80 Pro through some of its regional online stores. On Oct. 15, 2026, Huawei Store Malaysia listed the 16 GB / 512 GB model at RM 2,999, down from RM 3,999.

In China, Huawei's Vmall listed the Mate 80 Pro (12 GB / 256 GB) at ¥6,999. That is the HarmonyOS 6 China edition.

Huawei does not sell the phone in the US (see the FCC rules below). Third-party exporters list the China edition. For example, Giztop listed the Mate 80 Pro "as low as $1,099.00" on Oct. 15, 2026; its listing says it is the "Chinese edition" with HarmonyOS 6.0, no Google Mobile Service or Google Play store, and support for English and more than 30 languages. Giztop says it may not know the customs duties in your country. We have not tested any seller, and its pages don't address the FCC import rules below; check its warranty and return terms before you buy. [7][9][12][13][14]

Will it work in the US?

Huawei lists these bands for the global Mate 80 Pro (SGT-LX9): LTE FDD 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 17, 18, 19, 20, 26, 28 and 66; LTE TDD 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42 and 48. No 5G bands are listed. A band is a slice of radio spectrum; a phone only connects where it supports the bands a carrier uses.

- T-Mobile lists its 4G LTE bands as 4, 5, 66, 12 and 71. The Mate 80 Pro covers all of those except band 71 (600 MHz), which T-Mobile uses for extended-range LTE. With no 5G bands listed, T-Mobile 5G is not usable. - AT&T says a phone must work on its 4G LTE network at "AWS, 700, 850, 1900MHz", and devices that don't match its technology and bands can't use its network. - Verizon says a BYOD phone must be unlocked and its hardware and software "must be compatible", which it checks by device ID (IMEI).

Huawei does not say whether the phone supports VoLTE (calling over LTE) on US networks. Check with your carrier. [3][15][16][17][18]

Apps and Google

No edition has Google's apps. Huawei says that because of Google's licensing, phones from the Mate 30 series onward don't come with GMS or Google apps, and suggests the web versions of Google's apps.

On the global Mate 80 Pro, apps come from Huawei's AppGallery, and HMS Core provides Huawei ID, payments, push notifications and other services; Huawei warns that some Android apps need GMS and may not run.

On China editions, apps come from the HarmonyOS AppGallery, where some listings are served through the Zhuoyitong or Chujingyi apps. Huawei's support pages say whether an Android package (APK) installs depends on what Zhuoyitong supports, and Huawei calls Zhuoyitong a third-party app. [5][11][19][20]

US restrictions: Entity List and FCC rules

The US Commerce Department added Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. to its Entity List effective May 16, 2019 (84 FR 22961). The rule imposes "a license requirement for all items subject to the EAR" (US export rules) for exports, reexports and transfers to Huawei, with a "presumption of denial". Huawei is still on the current Entity List. That rule is about what may be sent to Huawei.

The rules that affect buying a Huawei phone in the US come from the FCC:

- The FCC's Covered List has included "telecommunications equipment produced by Huawei Technologies Company" since March 12, 2021. - Equipment on the Covered List "is prohibited from obtaining an equipment authorization" (47 CFR 2.903). Radio devices may be imported only if they have an FCC authorization or meet one of the exceptions in 47 CFR 2.1204. - Since July 16, 2026, the FCC also bars importing and marketing already-authorized equipment added to the Covered List in 2024 or earlier, which includes the 2021 Huawei entry (FCC notice, 91 FR 41023). The FCC says consumers may keep using devices they already have "if the equipment was legally purchased and maintains an existing equipment authorization", and that the bans don't apply to importation under the conditions in section 2.1204(a)(3)-(11). - One of those conditions, 2.1204(a)(7), covers "three or fewer radio frequency devices" imported "for the individual's personal use and are not intended for sale", within the device categories the rule lists. The rule does not name Huawei phones; read it, or ask the FCC, before you import one. - An FCC rule effective Oct. 13, 2026 says its marketing rules reach any entity, "including online marketplaces", that markets unauthorized equipment (91 FR 57798). Newer model: Mate 90

Huawei launched the Mate 90 series in Shenzhen on Oct. 1, 2026, with HarmonyOS 7. Huawei's prices start at CNY 5,999 for the Mate 90, CNY 6,999 for the Mate 90 Pro, CNY 9,499 for the Mate 90 Pro Max and CNY 12,999 for the Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design. As of Oct. 15, 2026, Huawei's global phone page still lists the Mate 80 Pro, not the Mate 90. Huawei's China phone page lists the Mate 90, Mate 90 Pro, Mate 90 Pro Max and Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design. See our Huawei Mate 90 page. [6][26][27]

Questions people ask

Does the Huawei Mate 80 Pro have Google Play?

No. Huawei says phones from the Mate 30 series on don't come with Google Mobile Services or Google apps. The global Mate 80 Pro uses Huawei's AppGallery; China editions use the HarmonyOS AppGallery. [5][11]

Is the global Mate 80 Pro running HarmonyOS?

No. Huawei's global spec page lists EMUI 15.0. The China editions run HarmonyOS 6.0. [2][3]

Can I buy a Huawei Mate 80 Pro in the US?

Not from Huawei. Huawei telecom equipment is on the FCC Covered List, and Covered List equipment can't get a new FCC equipment authorization. The FCC's import rule has a personal-use exception for up to three devices not intended for sale; read it before importing. [7][23][24]
